Heather- Seeking Determination and Motivation

My name is Heather and I am 28 years old. I am trying to be healthier since I have been blessed with the potential for just about anything out there. My family has heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid problems, and weight problems on both sides.

Before I stopped weighing myself, I had lost 42 pounds and gone down from a tight size 16 pant to a size 10. I lost the first 30 pounds just with diet changes. The next 12 with exercise. While I would ...

Before I stopped weighing myself, I had lost 42 pounds and gone down from a tight size 16 pant to a size 10. I lost the first 30 pounds just with diet changes. The next 12 with exercise. While I would like to lose more weight, the goal of losing weight often gets in the way of my goal to be healthier. I know they should go hand in hand, but I start to lose track of what is really important and have a problem with self destructive talk and behavior. So now I am just striving to be healthy and if I lose weight while I am changing my life to a healthier one that is great.

My Goals:
1. To Be More Active: I sit at a desk all day for work. One of my goals is to get up every hour and a half and take a walk, do some lunges, or wall push ups.

2. To learn to love healthy eating & exercise so that it can become a life change and not a part time change.

3. To learn to love myself and my body and to be my biggest fan, not my biggest critic.

My Program:
The way I am working toward achieving my goals:

1. Trying to get a good support system (this site, a fitness site on a wedding board, getting my mom and fiancee on board with losing)

2. Recording my successes! I have a calendar I am marking off every day I exercise and how long.

3. Trying to realize that success isn't just measured by the number on the scale (this is important because otherwise I start to feel defeated quickly!)

Personal Information:
I am from Oklahoma but relocated to Northern California 5 years ago to be with the love of my life. I am a college graduate with a degree in psychology and I work at a community college. I love FOOD!! lol and I love photography and reading.

PB2 is delicious. It might be an acquired taste though because the first time I tried it, I was disappointed. It is dehydrated peanut butter (they have a chocolate kind which I LOVE). I mix it in with my oatmeal/ frozen yogurt. You can add some water to it and turn it into spreadable peanut butter. You can buy it online or some health stores carry it but it is a little pricey. I try to buy as much as possible online since it is cheaper when bought in bulk.

Oh, the best part is that 2 tablespoons are only 45 calories. =]

I can completely relate when you say "the goal of losing weight often gets in the way of my goal to be healthier". For example, I woke up today telling myself I would pretty much fast today to make my weigh in goal... After 2 days of overeating and a 3 pound gain, I was beating myself up even though I didn't truly overeat, I just wasn't "perfect". I was out of town, with family, and we went out for dinner, and we went out for breakfast, and I went to the bar ...
I need to realize that losing weight even the right way can be taken too far and become unhealthy (not only physically..).
The perfectionist in me hates hearing that :).
I love reading people's bio's and learning more about myself in the process..
I am TOO focussed on the weight loss when the real goal is health and that weigh in goal is really getting in the way of my health goal. SO Thank you so much for sharing :)
