[2/21/2013] 2 1/2 years! Wow! I am not the same person as when I began at nearly 250 pounds. I got to goal, bounced around a little, and am slowly trying to take that "bounce" back off! I have so much more energy and I feel so much better. Yesterday, a former colleague who hadn't seen me throughout my weight-loss journey, but has seen me a couple of times since January 1, 2013, came over to me and told me that she couldn't believe the change in me. That reaction doesn't happen so often ...
That reaction doesn't happen so often any more because most of my friends HAVE seen me, but it was nice. I STILL prefer to walk; I still don't really like strength training, but have begun to start it anyway. I enjoy my Spark friends immensely! 2 years! I have passed the two year mark in August 2012 and am happy with my fitness journey. I have reached my original goal and am slightly below, which makes both my PCP as well as me happy. I am so very happy that I found Sparkpeople and am blessed with all of my Sparkfriends who have encouraged me along this journey. I feel better! After 16 months, I am within 10 pounds of my goal weight. Walking is no longer a chore for me. I make good nutrition choices most of the time and stay within calorie range most days. Sparkpeople and my Sparkfriends' help have changed my life! **************************************** ***************** "I am going to feel better!" I wrote the above words in August 2010, and ten months later, I DO feel better, both physically and mentally. Tracking has ALWAYS worked for me, even 30 years ago as a Weight Watchers member. IF I had continued tracking, I would never have ended up at almost 250 pounds and barely able to move or breathe. I am now almost to the 160s and closer to the weight that my primary care physician wants me to be - 145. I have actually begun to enjoy exercising as I continue this fitness journey. I could barely walk to the end of my street when I started and those ten minute intervals were hard. Now I try to walk at least 45 minutes at a time and have to remind myself to take breaks. I enjoy my sparkteams and sparkfriends so much. Thank you for helping me and encouraging me on this journey! I have learned so much from each of you.

My Goals:
[2/21/2013] My goal is to stay around 150#. I was way too lax in my tracking/exercising habits in November and December this past year, so I am re-losing some of it. That's okay! It is a life-long journey. My preliminary overall goal was to lose 92 pounds. After discussion with my PCP, I am making my goal weight 145. That will be about 40 pounds from what I weigh right now. I have become more active physically and have more energy since beginning on my Sparkjourney in August 2010.
My Program:
I am using the nutrition tracker. It seems to help me to be more accountable. If I really want something, I eat it in a small amount. My preferred exercise at this time is walking. I do try to maintain at least 30 minutes each day. I have added resistance bands; I really like the way I feel after using them.
Personal Information:
I live in a small town in SW Missouri. I am retired from teaching, but continue to work part time at a local community college. I love it - both the retired life and the part time work! I play piano and began lessons again at age 51! I love to crochet, but tendonitis keeps me from doing it as much as I would like. My husband and I love to travel and purchased a motorhome just last month. We began by tent camping 15 years ago and have gradually added more of life's comforts to the experience.
Other Information:
My favorite Bible verse: They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength... My favorite authors: Debbie Macomber, Karen Kingsbury, Susan Wiggs
