UPDATE For 2012:
I didn't reach all my goals in 2011, but I did a lot better on my weight and ended the year at 150. That makes this years goal a little easier because I only need 15 more pounds to reach my goal weight. I know, I say this every year, but I WILL make it this year.

UPDATE For 2011:
I let myself slip in 2010 and as this year ends, I am back up to 166 pounds. Although that isn't an awful weight, at 5'4", I am starting to look like a beach ball again. I am still getting fairly good medical reports, but my cholesterol is creeping up again and I am still taking blood pressure medication, so it is time to really get serious and lose this extra weight. I have lymphadema in my arm and losing weight helps relieve the swelling that this condition causes too. I checked my BMI this morning and it is up to 28.5 and that is in the Overweight category. So, Here are my plans for 2011:

1) Weight training at least 30 minutes three days a week
2) Conditioning and core work at least 30 minutes three days a week
3) Continue running 3 to 5 days a week
4) Work on drinking fresh juices made from green vegetables
5) Eliminate 90 percent of the sugar from my diet

My 2011 Goals:
Lose 30 pounds
Bring my BMI down to 24
Lower my Cholesterol by 10 percent
Do a 5K in 30 minutes
Do a Half Marathon in 2:48 minutes

I am excited to get started because these goal are attainable and I am ready for the challenge.

UPDATE: 10/8/10
After initially doing very well, I slowly started resorting back to my old ways. You see, I hadn't changed my lifestyle, I had only been dieting and we all know, you can't do that forever. For all of 2009 and most of 2010, I was riding a roller coaster. I'm not really sure what made me see the light, but one day I woke up and said "No more!" I was getting healthy and I didn't want to gain all my weight back before I took hold of the situation and changed it for the better. I have had three weeks in a row where I lost weight and that is enough momentum to keep me going. Portion control is the answer for me. You see, I was running lots of races and thinking that I could eat as much of whatever I wanted because I was burning lots of calories. Not true! Believe it or not, I was training for and running a race every other month. Although I was running a lot, I was still gaining weight. My problem is portion control. Since I have been weighing my food, I have been losing weight. I now have enough confidence to feel I can reach my goal this year. SP has provided the morale base to help keep me on the right track. With their tools, I can keep track of my exercise and food and know that I am staying in line. My friends have been so supportive and I like to think I am helpful to them too because we are a team! Let's hear it for SparkPeople!

Here is an update: I ran my first 5K on December 20th and it was awesome. I was able to jog the entire race and my time was thirty seven minutes and fifty seconds. I had so many SP friends rooting for me that I had to do well. I didn't want to disappoint them or me. I am proud of myself for my accomplishments and just want to continue getting better and better. Now I know that I can reach any goal I set for myself because I have SP friends and a loving family to help me get there.

Just Starting:
I am eight months into the program and I thought I would reflect on the changes in my life. I'm not young and dating any more, so appearance is not my number one priority to lose weight. I really started my weight loss program because I had been diagnosed with a "fatty liver". At the time, I had no idea that the condition, when left untreated, can be fatal. My blood pressure was high and my cholesterol was off the charts. The cholesterol medication was bad for my liver, so I was kind of between a rock and a hard place. I knew I should lose weight, but I just couldn't stick to a diet. I would do well for a while and eventually gain all that weight plus a few more pounds. I was really unhappy with myself and my situation in life. I was in a job that was stressing me out and in a town that was driving my crazy (Las Vegas, fun place to vacation, but no fun to live there). We stuck it out in Las Vegas for five years and I finally turned in my resignation. We had decided to move back to Florida, where we loved the water and the weather. Since I had been working most of my life, I wanted to take some time off to get myself healthy again. My best friend's brother was dying from his fatty liver condition and it scared the heck out of me! By that time, my sister had found SparkPeople and recommended it to me. I joined and made friends right away because we all had something in common and that was to be healthy and lose weight. It was through SP that I met a good friend and she told me about a book called "Crack The Fat Loss Code" by Wendy Chant. I started on a very scientific weight-loss program that lasted eight weeks. At the end of that time, I went to the doctor to have some blood work done. My cholesterol was normal, my liver enzymes were normal and my blood pressure was only a little high. I had made a major transformation because by logging my meals and charting my exercise hours on my Spark tracking pages, I had lost 30 pounds. Friends I met along the way were my encouragement and motivation to want to do better. With my excellent doctor report, I was really flying high and wanted to continue the progress. I have since gotten my sister, brother and sister-in-law back on the weight-loss to good health track. I joined a team that works on training you for a 5K run. I started that training and have almost completed it. I always hated running track in school, but for some reason, now the timing seems to be right. I am registered for a 5K run on December 20th. I am really excited and now I know that I am going to be able to finish it. I'm not losing weight as quickly as I did in the beginning, but I am only fourteen pounds from my goal and if I take my time getting there, I don't care. I know I am on the right track and I am never going back!

Other Information:
HELLO, DO YOU KNOW ME?

Hello, do you know me?
If you don't, you should.
I'm a pound of fat. And I'm the HAPPIEST pound of fat that you would ever want to meet. Want to know why?
It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm ONLY ONE POUND, just a pound! Everyone wants to lose 3 pounds, 5 pounds, or 15 pounds, but never only 1. So I just stick around and happily keep you fat.
Then I add to myself, every so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it. That is, until I've grown to 10, 20, 30 or even more pounds in weight. Yes, it is FUN being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT, Left to do as I please. So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying,
"Oh, I only lost one pound." (As if that were such a terrible thing.) For you see, if you do this, you encourage others to keep me around because they will think I'm just not worth the effort.
