I was thinking the other day while Running just how far I have come with my fitness since
joining spark in May I actually found something I love to do and I don't think that would of happened without spark people!!!
Just a little back ground first on what type of exercise I did before spark.
There was a new gym coming to town and the girls I worked with from the bank ask if I wanted to join with them. So I said yeah for $20.00 a month and my son can go that's a
good deal. (PLanet Fitness)
That was March of 08 I weighed 260 and was dieting on and off. I would gain then lose gain. So I started going but no one was really regular. Patty & I would go at 5:00 in the morning
she was all into it she had a PT. I remember my first time on the Elliptical I went for 10 min.
I thought I would die. Patty said it would get better and I thought right maybe for you at 125 pounds. Well she was right I can go for 1hr or longer now and burn some major calories.
So I went on and off and in Dec of 08 I was laid off from the bank. (loan area)
I ate my way through the holidays and in March of 09 I had to look for insurance coverage always being covered with the bank it was never a issue. Well at 254 pounds border line high blood pressure the premiums where high. I really had not had high blood pressure and now I did.
So back to the gym this time more serious then ever my health was a issue. I started working out every other day 60 min of cardio & 30 to 45 min of strength training. My girlfriend's gym closed down and she came to mine that was nice to have someone there.
But honestly I went because I felt better afterward. I have never liked going there as I have lost weight it has been easier to go. I went on a regular basis before starting a medical class in Vero in Aug.09 and I slowed up on it. By Dec. of 09 I was 208 pounds. Well again I decided to eat at the holidays and after in March I weighed 223 so know it's been a year since getting serious and I have lost 31 pounds not much for a years time but it's better then gaining.
I went on vacation to Ca. in March of this year and ate pretty good for vacation brought snacks and I even worked out in the hotel gym. My cardio was really good such a difference from when I had been there a year and a half before.
So after vacation in April I decided I am going to start writing my food down every day and my fitness and get serious. By May I am strong I actually Ran on the treadmill at the gym it felt good. I was all worried about what everyone thought of me. When in reality everyone was busy doing there own thing it was all in my head.
I went home after running and started researching programs for running. I found one on ABOUT.com. I was very excited something new and a challenge. So On May 1st. I started with my program at the gym. I remember thinking wow I like coming here my girlfriend would walk on the treadmill beside mine while I was running and encourage me.
On May 14th I decided to check out Spark I was tired of logging my food in a book my Mom had told me about it months prior but did I listen NO.
I logged on as MOVINITMORE that's exactly what I had been doing so I thought that's a good name. Well I set up my Nutrition tracker and the Fitness tracker I didn't realize they even had that. I was excited to say the least. Then I started looking around at the teams and reading blogs.
That's where my Title comes to into play. I was about 3 weeks into my 5k training and I really started doubting Running at my Size. I even told my friend maybe this isn't for me this running thing. I think I should lose some more weight and try again doing it when I am smaller. (I think I have done that all my life and really it's sad to let life pass you by because of weight)
The next day I logged onto spark and thought let me check out this couch to 5k program/group. I was just peaking around reading stuff in a chit chat room that these girls had wrote about running while chunky. I even seen a team called Fat girls can run. I never joined but Just reading all the stuff helped me so much that I finished my 5k program and signed up to run my first 5k on July 4th weekend. (Oh that too played games with my head like are you crazy doing this I went back and fourth in my head with it) But again there where spark people out there doing it so I knew it could be done!!!
I want to say a BIG THANK YOU today for all the girls out there who wrote blogs and wrote about running at your size if it wasn't for you & spark I would NOT be training to do a half marathon the end of November.
I want to say THANK YOU to all my SPARK FRIENDS for encouraging me every day on this journey.
This year I am not eating my way threw the Holidays I am RUNNING & TRAINING FOR A HALF THE WEEKEND AFTER THANKSGIVING AND FOR ANOTHER HALF IN FEB.
Actually while training I have realized that you do need to eat a lot more to fuel your body for the LONG RUN and I will but it will be HEALTHY!!!!
