What's in Your Smoothie?

Monday, May 02, 2011

Yesterday, a friend of mine posted the following to her Facebook wall,

"Sunday morning breakfast smoothie with cat food. I keep the cat food and the protein powder in the same cupboard. They are dispensed similarly: open the lid, fill the scoop, then dump on top of the spinach. I retrieved as much of it as I could but a good 20 or so pellets got down too far. I didn't tell Hubby until after he'd finished his!"

What do you put in your smoothies? Have you had any bad experiences, intentional or otherwise?

Like my friend, I've learned that spinach and berries are a terrific combination. I use lots of ice and the purple berries disguise the greens. Until the ice melts, that is, and then the concoction turns brown. I've learned to drink fast or to serve my smoothies in non-clear containers. I've been known to add bran buds and flax seed to mine, too, for extra brown. Its still better than cat food.

I am enjoying a smoothie this morning and really like it! plain kefir, vanilla whey protein powder, sweet potato (cooked and peeled), banana, baking spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, etc), and crush ice. maybe some might enjoy this smoothie more in fall time, but I love sweet potatoes and pumpkin any time!

my smoothie usually has frozen berries, spinach, whey protein and a bit of milk so it actually blends. i often put flaxseed or chia in it too. i don't put cat food in. that is just gross. everyone says gross to me about the spinach. like you i say drink fast or it turns a funny colour!

Eeeew!! I've been making the same smoothie recipe for breakfast almost every day for well over a year now....lots of ingredients: organic skim milk, ground flaxseed, banana, frozen berry/cherry mix, frozen mango, plain Greek yogurt, water. NEVER EVER ANY CAT FOOD!! :)

LOL, that's really funny!!! I find drinking calories to be deeply unsatisfying, so no smoothies for me, with cat food or otherwise!
