How fast the thrill is gone

Friday, May 25, 2012

Thank you BB King for singing "The thrill is gone" back in the 60's. You prepared us for the real world. The exhilaration of a very pleasing endorsement by the votes was supplanted by the reality of the job/quest/obligation/calling today as I dealt with my docket this afternoon. The people wish to be safe, they wish to be treated fairly and they want justice. The threats to these desires are in large part totally disassociated from concern for others and many have low regard for themselves. If SP can lead me to lose my weight without pills and or surgery the same format might work on rehabilitating criminals. The key to success in SP is the individuals desire to get healthier and the teams and education support us on our quest/trek. My professional goal for "criminals" will be to put them in an environment that will lead them to recognize their behavior put them in a place they don't wish to remain or return to and then provide them the tools to accomplish their goal.

This is a novel idea! I wonder if it might work or if the criminals would network in unhealthy ways due to years (sometime lifetimes) of habit. Only way to know is to do it. What do we have to lose but the huge expense of housing them in jails and prisons.

Best luck!

I definitely don't envy your position. My mother and two sisters work on the social services end of where you are. I see the many frustrations they deal with in working with people who are given the tools they need to make positive changes and turn their lives around, yet don't take advantage of the opportunities they're given and make the same destructive choices over and over again. I think the FEW people they are able to reach are what keeps them going.
