If I have a craving for sweets or snacks I grab ONE piece of sugar-free candy from a co-workers candy dish and a 16oz glass of water. I make sure to suck on the candy and savor it. Then I drink my water. Usually the craving is gone and I keep on working.
On days that I am at home this is much tougher. First, I select an activity to keep me busy such as reading an engaging book, playing a difficult piece of music, an internet search, anything that will ENGAGE my mind completely. Next, I fill up a 16oz glass with water and drink it while engaging in my activity. If I still have the craving after the water is gone, then I grab a small handful of nuts or berries and go for a walk around my yard.
Notice if my first attempt to curb the craving does not work, I leave the house to avoid the trap of going into my kitchen to munch. Does this work 100% of the time? No, but 98% it does! For me it truly is mind (concentrating on other things) over stomach cravings.
