Are vegetables enough?

Wednesday, August 01, 2012

After about 2 days of eating vegetables, I feel like I should have a 4-5 oz. chunk of chicken or other meat.

I can't say that it is hunger. But thinking of making another all veggie/fruit meal does not appeal to me.

Once I made a thick soup and put small pieces of turkey sausage in it. That satisfied me.
But I did that only once. Usually I would grab some cooked boneless chicken or even fried chicken from the grocery store. Both were handy because my husband wants meat. I always have that in the house.

So my Eat for Health --Furhman Plan breaks down every 3 days or so. I have not yet lasted a whole week.

Chris

don't worry about protien, as long as your eating a variaty of fruits and veggies, and don't forget the beans.

Did you know that Kale has more protien in it than beef and brocoli has a good amount of protien.

So what veggies are you eating?

are you recording calories and checking protein intake?
Protein should be a minimum of 70 grams/day...
check it out and if you are like me, you'll get protein from eggs, milk, cheese and most of all fish....

Hang in there. Can you incorporate some fish in your diet? That might help the cravings for protein. Good luck to you!!!!

From what I have read...and I read a lot, some people cannot go without meat. It's in their nature to be hunters, predators, and they need the meat. I'm one of those people. Eating vegetarian...I tried it..made me very ill.

So what I'm saying is that not all "healthy diets" are good for everyone and can actually have a reverse effect.

Hope you get this all figured out.

Hugs

For me, a plant based diet is enough- MOST of the time. There are still cravings during stressful times but I think that is the emotional eater in me.

Listen to your body and find what works for you.

You can do this!

Some people do well with a total vegetable diet, but they make sure to have the protein vegetable, like beans. I do not limit my food plan, except maybe for insects. Can't get my mind around eating grasshoppers or ants.

You can't live on fruit and vege alone! If you aren't eating meat for ethical/medical reasons then you need to find a source of vegetarian protein.

I am sure I would have the same problem. Our Friends eat only chicken and fish with their Vegan diet. They both look good, but I don't think they ever did have tendencies to be obese. emoticon emoticon

Hi, you know what I think, but that is me. But if you try to go too much on fruits and veggies without the heartier starches, you will get hungry. Vegan diets should be heavily starch. Try reading Dr. McDougall's Starch Solution. Starches should take up half your plate and veggies about 40% and fruits 10%, on average. But you have to make your own decisions, as you know. We aren't going to stick with something unless we really believe in it. You've been doing great. emoticon

Oh, and what about Quorn products? They're made with mushroom protein, but I'm not sure exactly how extensively they're processed. I've had their "chick'n" patty, and it was better than fastfood-type preformed chicken patties (and I'm saying that as a non-vegetarian.)

Eggplant is a good idea. Mushrooms also give the sensation of meat, especially the big portobellos. Marinate or season them the way you would do with beef, and they can seem pretty similar. If lentils are all right, a mixture of slightly overcooked lentils with mushrooms can stand in for ground beef in a casserole or with a sauce.

But I do kind of agree with those who are suggesting that your body's trying to tell you something-- or at least your mind is. If you're feeling anything negative about yourself for having trouble with this plan, it might be better to try something less restrictive. Or maybe do this one in the opposite direction-- *start* with something close to your normal way of eating and gradually replace the non-Fuhrman foods with fruits and veggies to see how close you can get.

I can't give up any food group without my body craving it. I think we need a healthy balance from them all.

I think your body is telling you that you need protein... Chicken, Fish, Beef, or even a Egg.. at least twice a week...

Have you tried substituting some good, hearty beans? I don't know about Furman, but can you have other protein sources? Sounds like your body is telling you something.

I don't know as much about the Fuhrman Plan, but you do need to make sure that your diet is balanced well. If not, you will be hungry and could have problems later.

I'm not a Fuhrman fan, but if you're determined to stick with the veggies, try eggplant. There's recipe for mini eggplant pizzas in the Sparkrecipes database that's really good. The texture's meaty, and they're very filling.

You need to have protein. Its doesn't haven't to be meat but your body, especially your muscles need protein! Fruits & veggies don't offer your body what it needs!
