And that something is me! My approach, my attitude, my whatever.
Although the weight gain has stopped, it's not like the weight loss has begun! Ugh. But of course, you say, what was I expecting? Eating whatever I want (and trust I don't always want vegetables), and not exercising consistently does NOT lead to weight loss.
I really wanted to believe that if I exercised enough I didn't have to pay so much attention to what I ate. Guess what I figured out? I am NOT at the level of exercise that that is ever going to happen. So I DO need to pay attention to what I eat; oh, okay, not pay attention (cause I know exactly what I eat), but actually make good choices.
I have been riding my bike. The girls and I were riding every single morning (for about 2 miles). And it was loads of fun (mostly). But then life got in the way and we haven't done it for a week!
But I do have a good story!! The girls went to stay at their aunt's for one night. My dh said we should do something fun the morning they weren't home. My response? Let's go out to breakfast (one of my fav things to do). Then I realized what kind of choices I'd make if we did that (not healthy, let me assure you). And then I said, nevermind about breakfast, I'd really much rather go on a long bike ride (which I can't do with the kids). He totally agreed!! So we rode on this bike path that goes all the way to downtown Denver (we didn't go that far). We can ride to a gravel path that connects up to this longer, paved path. So we don't even have to drive to the parking lots! So we rode for 9 miles! It was AWESOME! I love bike riding. It's such a great path, there's a walking path next to it the entire way, so walkers/runners are on a different path from the bike riders. I took pictures, but they're still on my phone. Coming home was a big challenging - at least 4 hills to go up (we live in a very hilly area, but all around us is flat - didn't notice that when we bought it). I didn't think I was going to make it, but I did! Up all 4 of them!
So I am exercising, somewhat. My meals (bfast, lunch, dinner) are all really good. Where am I failing? Snacks and consistency. I am not controlling my snacking, and not making good choices when snacking either. And yeah, that can up my calories really fast. I am not exercising consistently either.
And honestly, exercise is not going to change until after school starts in 3 weeks. Already stressing over 3 girls in the 3 different schools, with 3 different start times. The 2 younger haven't been in a regular school in 3 years!! So big learning curves for them. Plus a new school district (that is the best in the state), but new systems for me to learn too.
I think I need to focus on better eating, having healthy snack choices that are easy and quick (no thinking required!). Exercise I'll do as the opportunity arises, and then after school settles in I can focus on finding a new routine.
