I had to take a nap this afternoon, something I don't normally do. The last week or two finally caught up with me though, and I was just exhausted. I laid down for an hour, and now I feel human again. Part of the exhaustion was due to late nights and early mornings. Nothing terribly exciting keeping me up at night, just getting lost in good books. The early mornings were for things like walking with my friend, Tricia, harvest, and this morning for the 5k race. I have taken it easy on a couple of days in the past two weeks, but I have been burning 2,000 calories or more through exercise almost every day. (Wednesday I burned over 4,000 calories!) Not enough sleep+physical exertion= an afternoon nap. Even when I was a little kid I refused to nap, so you know I was tired today.
I did good on the 5k today, setting a new personal best time of 36:37. (The weather was beautiful for the race, mid 60s and a breeze off the lake.) After the race I went right up to my parents' farm and helped my dad with a bit of harvest in his garden. He has pole beans and bush beans, so we picked those, and sweet corn, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, chard, lettuce, peppers, one turnip, plus one really big beet, which I brought home with me. It has gorgeous greens on it, so I will probably have the greens for dinner tonight. Of course, after picking everything we had to snap beans and shuck corn, before I helped mom make lunch for the three of us. I like when mom and I work together to get a meal together.
After lunch (and yes, I did the dishes), dad drove me and Cooper home, but I forgot my keys on the deck, and had to call mom and have her make a trip down with my keys so I could get into my apartment. I guess I was tired by that point.
Tomorrow I am sleeping in, and taking it easy. I have earned a day of relaxation! Normally my rest day is on Saturday, but this week it will be Sunday. I am going to be almost as busy next week, except no 5k scheduled for the early morning next Saturday, so maybe I won't feel like a toddler and need a nap!
