LOEHMANN'S has the best selection of workout clothes!! It is a luxury discount store and there are some great finds. They have some great pieces that have "shape enhancing" technology- slenderizing pants, "tummy control" tanks, etc. They also have an on-line store. Check it out and let me know what you think! www.loehmanns.com/Women-Activewear/Women-A ctivewear.htm

Good shoes, good sports bra, and then anything that makes you comfy for what you are doing. i range from sweat pants to skinny tanks, to shorts, to giant t shirts. Just support the girls and feet and you are good to go!

For me, the two big things I worry about are shoes and sports bras. I have an old knee injury, so good shoes are an absolute must, not just for running but for hiking, zumba, etc. I got professionally fitted, and I noticed an IMMEDIATE reduction in pain and improved performance! My hiking boots are the same...it costs extra, but it is worth the money! And for sports bras, as a rather top-heavy young lady, I cannot do any serious cardio without a good underwire sports bra. I recommend Champion, their bras fit best and minimize bouncing and discomfort! Otherwise, I love my Oasis running shorts, and 100% cotton yoga pants. I did buy a pair of official Zumba workout pants (the yoga pants were chafing a bit, and the Zumba pants are made from moisture-wicking synthetics that eliminated chafing for me). I usually just wear a cotton T, but I know a lot of people who swear by bamboo tops for workouts.

I have just started to wear nicer work out clothes to the gym. I would wear big and baggy clothes but decided to wear clothes that fit so I can judge my progress.

I'm not the type of girl to show up at the gym in a cute, color coordinated oufit...but for those who are, more power to you! I'm usually a t-shirt and track shorts/pants person and find a lot of affordable, breathable, and comfortable work out clothes at Target.

I like Target exercisewear. It fits me well and it is reasonably priced.

I always use wicking shirts and capris for running or biking. It is especially important to have wicking fabric as it gets hotter for the summer.
However, I have noticed that some of the wicking shirts hold odor, even after they are washed. Anybody else experience this? Any suggestions? I hate to smell like I've worked out BEFORE I work out, LOL. Afterward is fine.

I like Just My Size. I always look at Walmart when I'm there, or order from the website, jms.com You can't go wrong with black Capri leggings. When I used to go to the gym, I'd wear mens tank tops (I would collect them on trips, like Hawai'i) with a sports bra.

I like Nike running tights in capri length and usually wear dry tech tees and tanks. I wear them for all types of workouts including running, yoga, etc... I do want to try the lululemon brand, I've heard a lot of good things about that line.

I just came over here to offer my suggestion of Junonia as well. Expensive but well worth it, IMHO. Plus the models are BBWs so you can see how the clothes may fit your body.

Walmart's Danskin line...or any old t-shirt & shorts combo. The clothes aren't as important as the actual EXERCISE. It's not a fashion statement--it's a workout. Make it happen! :)

Try the new Victory line from Nike. I am a 32DD and these are the only sports bras that I have found that don't allow for movement when I'm doing my long runs. They have different levels of impact also, so you can choose which one works for your activity. Also, Moving Comfort is a big favorite of many women.

It truly depends on the type of activity you are doing. I have certain clothes that I love to wear to the gym, like capris and slightly fitted cotton tees. However, when I began doing distance running, I absolutely had to invest in dri-fit tees, running shorts, and dri-fit capris. The regular gym capris weren't cutting it. When I do yoga, I prefer looser fitting clothing, but not baggy. I am a true Nike devotee and have found throughout my 15 years in the fitness industry, their products tend to hold up the best over time.

Since I am still loosing weight I go to the Thrift Store and buy shorts or workout pants. I prefer them a little loose so I can move around in them better. I also prefer pants so when I am at the YMCA and doing work on the floor I don't worry about the shorts riding up. When I am out walking or running I prefer shorts.

I go for quality and good price, I shop resale or second hand stores. You would be amazed at how much brand new never worn stuff I find at the Salvation Army. I get Nike stuff for under 5 dollars all the time and sometimes they still have the original tags on them still.

NIKE is awesome all the way around and if you can find it on sale, or at a Marshall's, TJMaxx etc then buy any that fit! I have had 3 pair of Nike Capri's that I wore every week, sometimes 2x a week for probably 2-3 years, they wash well and don't fade. I have fitted capri's as they help hold everything in and don't chafe or irritate in certain place. The only thing from Nike I don't like are their bra's. Champion is also a great product, I have bought several running pants and sleeveless workout shirts by them, all at Target. I loved their workout bra's but unfortunately the ones I like they no longer make :( Still have a hard time finding a bra that is comfortable and holds me in when I run and I have tried several.

I work out at home, so I'm not at all concerned with how I look to others. I am small in stature, with a bust that is way too large for the rest of me and broad shoulders. For yoga pants, jackets and other sweats, I buy at Old Navy. They are pretty true-to-size, so I often order online. I can combine discount coupons with sale markdowns and save a lot. For shorts, I usually shop in the girls' department at Walmart. Their size 14 (sometimes 12) usually fits me well. For t-shirts, I usually shop in the boys' department at Walmart. The youth size 7 or 8 is usually a good fit, and boys t-shirts are broader in the shoulders than the girls ones. Also, you can usually get them for $3 or $4 each on sale. I buy socks in bulk-packs at Walmart.

I'm mid-sized with large topside. And I find that Kohls has great deals on Fila wicking type shirts and pants, and various length shorts (being mid-sized, I don't really want shorts that show my booty). And they carry DD size sports bras over in the bra section - the Jockey ones specifically are awesome, supportive, and comfy with adjustable back closure and adjustable straps. So as you lose weight, they still support and fit! I tried Lululemon, but they're sizes are SO SMALL that nothing fit. Nothing. I'm not even in XL in regular clothes, and nothing fit me there. But if you're a teeny girl, they have cute stuff. Also if you've got lots of $$ to spend on it, I love the selection at Athleta. Their clothes are so cute! And come in a variety of sizes. Good luck!

Thanks for all the tips. Especially the tips for the WalMart exercise clothing. I'll wait for a sale and try several bras so I can find one that is comfortable and not too snug. I'm little on the top and wider and thicker in the middle and the bottom. I'll look for Champion and Danskin. I'll report back after my purchases.

I agree with JewelryLover about the Champion and Danskin apparel. Cool in the warm weather and warm in the cold weather. Speaking of cold weather, I do own an Under Armor top & bottom. They're expensive, but I think it's a good idea to own at least one set. They really do keep you warm in the cold weather.

I love my C9 spandex capris and work out top from Target! They have dry wick which doesn't over heat. I used to run in cotton tees and yoga pants, but will not go back after wearing the above mentioned items. I never thought I would say spandex is awesome, but it really is for exercising.

I was told that shoes were the most important piece of equipment - "Don't skimp on your shoes." However, being a 42DD sized woman I find the bra is the most important. If the girls, back or shoulders hurt I can't push myself to exercise. I can do 60+ jumping jacks at a time and not feel a jiggle in my new bra called JuBRAlee by moving comfort. Found it online. Besides shoes and a good bra I say wear what is comfortable. I suggest staying away from cotton during aerobic movement - may cause chaffing.

any thing that is cotton pure cotton - and breathable - not too tight but not too baggy to hamper your movement. i tried all the spandex, and poly cottons, etc etc - awful - does not wick away the sweat and sticks to your skin. also - wears in the 'really panic places' like thighs and butt. cotton washes great - dries quickly and wears like iron.

I buy almost all my pants at Walmart, but, as I am a Zumba instructor, buy most of my tops from zumba.com. I generally wait for a sale for the tops. I don't like the pricey Zumba bottoms. The cargo pants look slick and funky, but I just can't get into them.

Wicked tops and bottoms as well as socks and a good hat. You can purchase items from places like Target, Wal-mart, Khols, Burlington Coat Factory and Ross to name a few. They do not have to be the most expensive but rather what you feel fits best and you like will help make working out more fun.

I bought some Danskin shorts and tanks for summer. It gets very hot in the gym where we do zumba, so for summer I definitely needed something cool. I did treat myself and bought a wonderful pair of pants at Kohl's. I can't remember the name, but they fit extremely nice. For my birthday I would like some new zumba clothes. It took me 6 months to get a new work out clothes. Finally went into Old Navy on Tuesday and bought yoga capri on sale for $15. They are really comfortable and light, especially now with warmer weather. I work out hard, so sweat alot so I got black. Was hoping for the wickie material but too expensive and I wanted capri to flair at knee. Anyways, would recommend the yoga capris at Old Navy.

There's a company called Snail Sisters Sportswear and they make workout shirts with a wicking material. They are a start up company near Green Bay, Wisconsin. They say, "In our effort to be physically fit (or maybe just a little bit fitter), we found it difficult to find clothes that work for women who don’t necessarily have an hourglass shape." They make shirts in women's sizes 8-24! I really like my long sleeve shirt and can't wait until they add some tanks. You can order them online at http://snailsisterssportswear.com/

When I purchased my workout clothes (for cardio, yoga, and strength training) I invested in a great sports bra by Moving Comfort (the Maya bra which is great for bigger cup sizes), and Danskin active tees and a Danskin active jacket (with inner pockets and a zipper). (I bought the Danskin items at Walmart). A friend gifted me with Victoria's Secret yoga pants which I love because they are super comfortable. That was last year and I'm happy with all of them.

Thank you, it just took me by surprise to catch a look in the mirror unexpectedly. I was embarrassed to go as the last time I was there it was 60 lbs ago, I guess I was hoping that dark colours will make me fade into the background and not be noticed. Because of all of your tips I went out today and got 2 T's in my favourite colours, one bright yellow and the other turquoise and a pair of stretch Capri's from Joe Fresh and tomorrow morning I'm off to the gym :)

Please try again ELISAN! Even if it's just a few minutes. Find things to love about your body right now: your lungs filling up with air, your heartbeat, the sound of your voice. See if you can get yourself to the gym 2 times this week, for 20 minutes each time maybe. Then, reward yourself for your bravery and perseverance as much as if not more than rewarding yourself for the exercise! Not a food reward :) Maybe a pedicure, or some really great smelling body lotion? Time to read a book? Something you love. I do feel better able to work in form-fitting clothes. I also feel amazingly self-conscious! I have to find some combination of "I can do this" and "the exercise matters most, not how I look". Small changes over time: crops pants, then capri, then shorts. Short sleeve shirt, then sleeveless before wearing a snug tank.

Bright colors make such a difference! They make you smile and feel better about the whole experience. Something else I've noticed since I started getting back on track: I used to wear big baggy clothes to work out - likely to hide my body. The more fit I get, the more the baggy clothes are totally uncomfortable because they're just in the way. Getting better fitting clothes helps you move more efficiently and definitely feel better about yourself in the process. (At least that's how I feel! Hope someone else does too!)
Be positive and love your life.

I have a life time gym membership that I haven't used since gaining a lot of weight. Last week went to gym in dark sweat pants and shirt, got on ex. bike and looked up to see myself in the mirror. Went back to change room, got stuff out of locker, left and cried on way home. You all have great ideas. I'm inspired and will go to the thrift shop for some bright t's and black capris, get a decent sports bra from Old Navy and try this again.

I shop for sales all the time at TJMaxx or outlets, etc. My go-to brands are Under Armour, Adidas, and Asics (particularly for running shoes). I sweat quite a bit while working out and need wicking fabrics to help get it off of me, and Addidas/Under Armour work well. Under Armour makes great high-impact sports bras by cup size, so they're an option as well. Call me finicky, but I can't run or do cardio kickboxing in pants because I feel like I'm overheating, so I make sure to stock up on great shorts. For those of you wanting pockets, I bought a "Chums" pouch that I lace into my shoes. It has a zipper as well as a velcro pocket. The one I have isn't super large (I think there are various sizes), but it's big enough to hold my ID, some cash, and my house key. I got it because I hate carrying things or feeling something jostling around in my pockets - it all has to be immobilized somewhere I can't feel it!
Be positive and love your life.
