I definitely agree with seeing if he will join you in your healthy efforts.

I wish I had a great idea for you because I have been dealing with this very issue. I love my husband very much but he'r well, lazy in the exercise department. He even signed himself up for a 5k this past Sunday and I hope it would get him to exercise a bit. He didn't. (I have signed him up for a couple races we did together. Once he prepared, the other time he didn't.)

Since we met and married, I have actually gained back 30+ pounds back that I worked so hard to get off. He didn't know me during the time I lost the weight and was a crabby person due to the hunger. :-)

The main thing I attribute my regain to is his attitude towards my exercise. I used to work out on average 1 1/2 hours a day. He complained. I slowed down. I finally figured this out and told him about a month ago. He's backed off slightly. I am trying to get back to where I was but it's a slow battle.

I guess what I am getting at is tell this guy why you exercise and how it helps you.

Question: what did he say when you talked to him about your concern?

It is not okay for an alcoholic to get drunk once in a while.

So do not tell a food addict it is okay to eat like sh*t once in a while

I would say if this is someone who "clicks" then he should understand your goals and respect them because if you feel better and are healthy, you'll be around for a lot longer and you'll have a better relationship. If he doesn't get that, maybe he's not the one. You don't need someone who will undermine your efforts to take care of yourself. Good luck!

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

Hi everyone :) This is my first post.

I'm recently divorced and entering a new relationship with a great guy. I thought when we first met that our lifestyles were similar, but it turns out he is a "when it happens it happens" workout person and when it comes to food, doesnt have a CLUE.. just good genes.

Now we are spending a lot more time together, which is great, but I'm not happy with how its been affecting my lifestyle. I plan my workouts every day, with purpose and specific focus and goals, and I plan every meal and only shop for what I need, not because it looks good or because its on sale. This is how I have been successful and its how I choose to live.

How do I continue to develop this relationship and hold on to those ideals?
