If you can afford it, a day at the spa is spectacular as a reward for reaching a weight goal.

Rewards? Not food related for me. Just doesn't work well. Not $ either, although now that I have a decent job, I guess I could change that. Here are some of the things I've used - TV/movie/computer games Long baths A different run/walk route Window shopping Craft project Pretty much anything that you enjoy doing but isn't necessary can be moved into a reward. It really works quite well for me.

I have been hoping to buy myself a new red purse which has been something I have been looking forward to for a very long time. I really am excited about this goal as I really want a red pocketbook but do not want to spend the money until I earn it. I just purchased some new make up from AVON. I feel like I want to look my best no matter what size I am though I am looking forward to reducing my weight further. Right now I am not going to buy very much new clothes as I want to get one size down before I splurge again. I am hoping by Christmas I might be down a size or two. I may get jewelry for my next milestone of 50pounds down since I really, really don't want to spend money on that now. I love jewelry and I would like to get a nice set or a special pair of earrings to wear. I think setting goals that make me feel good is awesome! It makes me feel like I am earning it!

My mother has a saying she always tells us... "How do you eat an elephant? One bit at a time!" With that in mind, I pick smaller goals and hense, smaller rewards. Right now my goal is to do cardio 4 days a week. I have been trying to fit this in for over a month now, I get up to 3 almost every week, but that 4th day just eludes me! Once I hit this goal I will reward myself with a new pair of (workout) shoes. It's duel purpose! And then once I hit that goal, I pick my next one - maybe to reach be able to jog 30 minutes at a 4.0 mph rate. One thing at a time!

It depends on the pounds lost or if you kept your workout commitment for the week/month I would buy a new nail polish or eyeshadow. If I lost 15 lbs purchase a new article clothing

I like to reward my self with things that make me feel good like... ..new workout clothes (I don't need, but I enjoy wearing and I earn with regular workouts) ..new clothes ..movies (full-price, non-matinee movies) ..purchase a new book for the nook (instead of waiting for the book to become available at the library) ..a manicure/pedicure or salon day. My next reward will be a massage, which is big for me because I do have a hard time sending money on myself. That sending money that doesn't involve food. But I save money and eat better when I cook at home, I can pay myself back with these non-food rewards.

If anybody is interested I wrote a blog post with different ideas for non-food fitness rewards: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_ individual.asp?blog_id=4888233 Also, as a possible suggestion: I like putting a picture on my sparkpage that symbolizes my next reward. Since it doesn't get crowded out like giving myself a representative goodie can (since I get goodies from other people) I see it every time I look at my sparkpage and keep the other reward pics in my photos kind of like trophies. Anyway, just a thought.

I reward myself by buying a new book for my Kindle, new clothes now and then, a massage once in a while. Even just taking a book and sitting under a shade tree to read for a couple of hours.

As KATANNAH said earlier, some of us (me included) are just learning how to love ourselves for the first time in our lives, so rewards are a great way to pat ourselves on the back. My hubby and I are on a tight budget with 2 kids and only one income, but I figured for the next few milestones, I could afford to buy myself one song on Amazon.mp3 to listen to while I work out. I think my "Under 300" prize is an exercise mat so I can be a little more comfortable on a mat instead of just the carpet (especially when doing back extensions and I have to be face down). As I continue, I look forward to getting more workout related things OR things I have wanted for a long time and never felt I "deserved" them before. I was seeing a therapist regularly a while back and this was one area we were working on before I stopped going for a while. I can spend money on anyone else in my family until we are broke, but I can't buy myself things I NEED without guilt. I am a work in progress, lol!

My main reward is that I am achieving a healthy lifestyle on my way to my ideal weight. I do small rewards for small steps that I accompish. Last week I could button up some pants that were too small for me before. I rewarded myself with one mini peanut butter cup. They were one of the hardest things for me to give up
Keep on track

I like a manicure/pedicure. I can't afford to go to the beauty salon, so I go for a new look by buying a new wig every few months and I buy facials to do at home.

I used to. Some people say don't use food as a reward, but I do occasionally lol. Having dessert or dinner out is a reward to me. I still need balance.
But I may buy myself something new to wear.

The weight loss and inches vanishing are a reward in and of itself. I am now haivng trouble with another kind-that I have the self image of 25 pounds heavier (and about 18 inches). I sew a lot, and my choices of patterns and cloth need to change. I know that sounds like whining, but I had to look into a mirror and really see the new me so I could get a handle on my new look. That was my reward- to see a new or rather an old) me.

As many have said, losing weight and getting healthy is definitely a reward in itself.
I've HAD to get some new clothes, as my old ones were falling off me, and I had given away 98% of my "small" clothing - deluding myself into thinking my body had changed shape, and that I'd never wear them again.
Sure it had changed shape - finding the scale and stepping on it proved that. Finding an old (five years ago) record of my weight absolutely confirmed it.
So, while initially my rewards were non-material (and definitely non-food related), I've bought things, but didn't link them specifically to my weight loss, except in the aspect, as above, that I HAD to have new clothing, or whatever.
My biggest reward, lately, has been to drag hubby's (and my) bikes out of the shed, get them tuned up, and begin cycling in the evenings. The great thing, is that I'm actually having the stamina to do it, which says much more about my current health, than any other material rewards could.
This is definitely not to say that if little rewards help you along the way, that they are somehow wrong. Just giving you my experience.

I prefer to stick to intrinsic motivations (doing things for their own sake, because they are good!) rather than extrinsic (rewarding myself with other things). I've spent too much of my life rewarding myself with food and replacing it with other things is probably not the best idea for me. Besides, I feel swell - no need to spend or do anything to reward myself for that! :)
