Do watch the HBO Documentary 4 part series "THE WEIGHT OF THE NATION" if you haven't already. Lots of information on health & exercise, etc.

People can be stupid and cruel.... long ago, I had a group of friends who who do such things randomly and without thought. Teenagers in herds, with empty heads and empty hearts. I am still bothered I never spoke up, and it has been 40 years or so in the past.

I'm on the Don't Eat Crap nutrition plan.

I'm smarter than a bag of chips! Faster than a maple bar! Stronger than a box of chocolates!

That is unbelievable! I can't believe people can be so dense and unfeeling. An exercising person is not target practice for the fast food eating litterbug! It kinda makes me mad about the direction that society goes in at times. People should be nicer to people!

At least you didn't let it discourage you. Keep up the good work!

Thank you all for the encouragement! Thankfully, I've had no further incidents, but I'm trying to vary where I ride and at what time of day (when the situation allows) so there's nobody out there saying, "Hey, we see that lady near this spot every day; let's get things ready to throw!"

I'm pretty sturdy, as far as being knocked off my bike or anything, but I just hate ignorant people.

I feel like it is so sad that people can't even get out and work out on the streets without being laughed at,thrown things at, harassed. It's unbelievable! and worst of all. Some people even murdered. I feel like i can't ride my bike on the street (if no side walk) without fear of someone hitting me. i hope things get better!

I can, and WILL do it!

That's awful! IDK what people are thinking when they do stupid stuff like that....I agree he/she probably is getting fat at McDonald's!!!! LOL....I would have wished for a license plate number too. A bicyclist got hit in my town last year from a guy reving up his motor at the group of cyclists bc he couldn't pass them. Well, he reved it up and "accidentally" hit one of the cyclists and killed him. Man was just trying to be healthy and is dead bc of a moron, leaving behind a wife and 2 young kids. The motorist was arrested and went to prison for vehicular manslaughter. People should know better than to "play" around like that, they can cause an accident.

Have any of you ever been riding a bike outside and had someone throw something at you?

I had the incredible experience this afternoon of having a teen (who obviously thought he/she was pretty clever) drive past me and throw ice water or Sprite or something on me as I was riding along the side of the road...complete with paper cup (litterbug!). If I hadn't been at the tail end of a mostly-uphill five-mile ride, I might have tried to pedal faster in order to get the license plate number. (Not sure what I would have done with it, other than call a friend who's a state policeman to see if they could scare the person by threatening a littering fine or something.)

I mostly felt indignant. I certainly wasn't hurt, and truth be told, it felt pretty refreshing on my bare legs, but still...I just have a hard time believing people are really that moronic. I consoled myself with the thought that I was getting a good cardio workout while he/she was probably getting fat on McDonald's food. A petty triumph, but I'll take it.
