OK, my question to you is: What is wrong with right now? What is truly stopping you? Flimsy excuses-- I have no time, I have no money, I am too tired, i have no where to exercise, (say all in an ultra whiny voice). You want to make stupid flimsy excuses, then you are NOT ready to make a change. You don't care enough to push yourself. You will not get it by staring, drooling, wishing or hoping. It doesn't come easy. You get it by getting off your butt, working for it every second of every day for the rest of your life. That is how you end the i"ll start tomorrow game. Because if that is your reasoning, you will never start. Same as if you said I will start on Monday. You might as well just throw in the towel now. So again, my question to anyone who says this-- Give me ONE GOOD REASON, why you cannot start right now.

Tomorrow never comes! Just do it!! Dont wait til tomorrow to do something that you can do today, I was one of the biggest "Ill start tomorrow.. or Ill start Monday" people. There is never a better day to get started on your journey than the here and now. Its one day at a time. One foot in front of the other. There will be bad days, days where you dont want to take that first step - but I treat the gym like my job. I get up - I go and do the work and I have never walked out of the gym wishing I hadnt gone. I always feel better after I get my burn and it sets the tone for the WHOLE day.. It forces me to make better decisions on the food that I put into my mouth through out the day.

Every day is still a struggle for me. When I do managed to "just do it", I've found little ways to trick myself to keep going. If I'm on the treadmill, I start off with "just 15 minutes" but then I use the numbers on the machine to "trick" myself into more - - have to round off this time, round off the calorie number, finish this mile, etc. Next thing I know I've done close to an hour. I wear a pedometer & use that too - every so often I pull it out of my pocket & tell myself to round off to the next 500, I usually go over so I push to the next 1000 and so on. The first trick is pulling off the "just do it" attitude first thing in the morning. That is still a big struggle for me. I was doing good for a few weeks but then went on vacation & can't seem to get back into the swing of things. The streaks are keeping me at least doing something 10-15 minutes a day but I need more than that & I'm not working hard. Today is a new day - I'll try again!

The only thing that I can recommend to you is change into the clothes you were to exercise and take that step forward. I know how you feel and are thinking because every time I have had to start back into my running program after an injury, I hate to think what it is going to take to get back to where I was before. I just tell myself that if I do not start, I will never get to the end of where I want to be. I wish you luck getting started again.

i liked your point Fatalyn. If i start the day eating bad, i usually say might as well finish that pack of chocolate so that i can be good tomorrow. And well i have the choice to start eating well that day itself.
One day at a time...

I'm firm with myself... it wasn't always so! food wise if I fall off the wagon I mentally push it aside and tell myself, that was silly but now it's over and get straight back to what I should be doing. With exercise I find this more difficult but if I miss a day I try to increase my activity over the next couple of days, not necessarily with the activity that I missed and I always give myself a day off every week as a rest day. It takes the right mental attitude more than anything else I find.

when i lived in my hometown in california, ppl were out excersizing ALL THE TIME. it was easy to find inspiration and there was always something to do.. running, hiking, kayaking, anything, moving to texas, ppl here are overwight, and eat out all the time. there is not much to do and i went from being at the gym 2 hours a day 6 days a week adn weighing at 118lbs. to being 137lbs. i couldnt find motivation here and i have been struggling for almost a year, playing the tomorrow game. i got a gym membersip but still feel so disconneted to everything, i ended up getting myself a husky she has felped my get off my butt and start walking for at least 30 min eeryday. 3 months later, i picked up cardio kickboxing and body combat. i am also trying to get into running outdooors again.... its all a long process but every time i find myself after a workout, i feel so much more confident and better abot myself. try to find goals to workout...example im going to visit my family in august. i dont want them to see me the way i was, i want to get fit so that i can join my sister running and be able to enjpy myself with them.
A workout is a personal triumph over laziness and procrastination.

To be honest the only real way I ever ended the "I'll start tomorrow game" is to actually DO IT & keep up at it for a while until it became more of a habit for me to "do it" and not really have to put much thought into it. I've fallen off the wagon so many times in the beginning but not it's just like second nature (most days at least) Getting on the wagon is the hardest part..after that you just have to stay on as much as possible :)
Feel free to add me as a friend! :):):)

I am a chronic "I'll start tomorrow-er". My problem is I'm all gung ho on my way to work.... "I will workout when I get home"... Then when I get home, I'm exhausted!! I was reading all the comments and one struck me. It was entered by SILVASHAN Discipline means doing it even when you don't want to!! This time next year you will wish you had started today!! I have one more to add - If I want better..... I need to work for it!!!
If I want better, I need to WORK for it!! Goal #1 220 Goal #2 200 Goal #3 180 Goal #4 160 Goal #5 150 Goal #6 145

I just make sure that before I go to bed every night, I have a full glass of water, my heart monitor (both the chest part and the watch part), and my ponytail holder on the nightstand and my workout clothes put out at the foot of the bed. That way, the first things I do when I wake up are drink my water, put my ponytail holder in my hair, put the heart monitor on and get dressed. Then I just have to grab my keys and my iPod and I'm good to go! On those days when it's REEEEEEAALLY hard to get motivated, I just think of how good I'll feel after I'm done with my workout, and that usually does the trick.

I negotiate something small and easy. A 10 minute walk around the block. 5-10 minute stretching or yoga video. 5-10 minutes on whatever exercise apparatus you have collecting dust. That way you start TODAY and tomorrow you'll do even more on Day 2 (and you can plan what that is during the 10 minutes you're exercising TODAY)

You always need to separate your mind from your body. Your mind will tell you "take a rest....... this rest feels great you should just stop for the day." while your body will say "keep going I need this". You need to force yourself to do what needs to be done even if you don't want to.

You can end the procrastination game by staying out of your head. I never listen to my thoughts or how I feel when it comes to working out. I just get up and go do it. If my head says I don't feel like it I don't listen to that, when it's time to workout I just put on my gear and go. Now it's just an engrained habit and it's never a struggle to get out there and get my workout in.
Basically if you sit around waiting until you (feel) like doing it, it probably isn't going to ever happen. :-)
It's also important to find a workout that you like and that resonates with you. If you don't know what that is yet try different things out for a couple of weeks each until you find what clicks. For instance if my only options were to walk, cycle or take a dance class I probably wouldn't bother lol. I've found what clicks for me personally.

What great responses to this good question! I'm going to try the picture of myself and the one month boot camp ideas. The past 6-10 months, I've literally been excusing myself for one reason or another....friends coming to town, going away party for co-worker, wedding to attend, graduation to attend, dinners, parties, celebrations... Every Sunday, I say "I'll start tomorrow"..... "Next week for sure"..... ugh...... Basically, I've lost touch with my goals. I haven't gained too much but certainly have not reached my goal to this day! So, today, I restarted my strength exercises and if I'm not rained out tonight, I'll start walking again .....TONIGHT..... not tomorrow.

Just start. I just did and exercise becomes something you just do. Once you start -- find something you really like to do. Just because your friends might like to bike doesn't mean you really do. Same goes for running -- right now I prefer walking, being as close to nature as I can in my neighborhood. It is convenient and something that I enjoy. I was having a hard time finding the TIME but I realised that EVERYONE has only 24 hours in the day and that's why I decided on walking in my neighborhood to start (no wasting time getting somewhere). No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try. --YODA Now -- if I could only figure out how to get my 15 minutes of stretching in -- perhaps as dinner is cooking?

I find planning helps - if I plan for the week ahead and list my foods and fitness on here I am more likely to stick to it as it is a nuisance to change my items in my trackers! Also seeing how many calories is in something (like pancakes - of my big downfalls) often stops me having them and of course if I have planned and prepared food I tend not to give in to the temptation of the local takeaways And PAWS120 - congratulations on kicking the cigs!! It's hard to start with but does eventually get easier - I was a 'proper' smoker too and had my last puff on Xmas Eve 2010 - I feel much better and freer for it, but oddly still don't have any more money, but spending is a whole other area I am working on!

Working on streaks has helped me gain consistency and quit procrastinating. I've learned that when I put things off too late into the week, I don't accomplish my streaks. Monday is starting to be a big day for me to get things going.

PAWS120 - I am so sorry, but there is no way around perimenopause. You just have to put your head down and push through it. It isn't easy and it isn't pretty but the one thing that helped me the most is exercise both cardio and strength training. It also takes me FOREVER to lose weight, too.

I have a couple of tricks. I'm a runner, but I only like to run outside. 1 trick is looking at the weather. If rain is coming later in the week, it's a lot easier to get out today while I can. Otherwise, my second trick is telling myself that I only have to do 1 mile. Of course by the time I get to the turn around point for 1 mile, I feel good and keep going.

Spark has some pretty good articles on here on feeling guilty about overeating, or going off our diets, etc... and not do this, because negative self talk won't help with your weight loss. And to forgive ourselves and move on. Wanting to start a healthy lifestyle is a positive thing. Usually when I told myself "tomorrow", it's because I was being hard on myself about overeating, or whatever unhealthy thing I ate that day.i think Im referring to the "all or nothing" state of mind. Allow for breaks and mistakes I guess, just get back up.

I am incredibly lazy, and I never feel like working out. My solution is to tell myself that all I have to do is get up and go down to the workout room (my building has a nice little room in the basement). I tell myself that I don't actually have to exercise if I don't want to when I get down there; all I have to do is go. I inevitably end up exercising when I arrive. It helps that I don't have a television but the workout room does. :D I always used to get really stressed out because I expected too much of myself right off the bat. Slowly building up to a regular exercise routine, along with trying not to stress myself out about it, has really helped.

Today I stopped using "I'll start tomorrow" as an excuse. today I finally went to the gym - something I've been working up to for over 2 years. No more excuses! My hair was not having a good day (no lie) and I went anyway. My daughter balked at staying in their child care center (she's shy and didn't know anyone). I forgot my gym shoes of all things (the trainer said my street sneakers would be ok for today). So many opportunities were presented for me to turn around and say "better luck tomorrow", but I have finally had enough. I'll continue tomorrow...

The best advice that I have received on SparkPeople is to just put one foot in front of the other and walk out your door. Walking is free, it doesn't take much time and it is easy to do for 10-30 minutes; especially when the weather is nice. Go and explore your neighborhood and community. Walk in areas that you have always wanted to go window shopping or visit a favorite museum and keep up a good walking pace. It is soooo easy to put things off until tomorrow but everyday that you do...you are loosing out on all the great things that will come from building healthy habits which include daily exercise. So, let's start a new club the today is the day for me to __________. The procrastination club is very popular but we no longer want to be apart of the "I'll start tomorrow" game! Good luck with being apart of the "today club". Let's all join together and see what a difference a day, a week, a month, a year of doing things today and not waiting for tomorrow to come can make.
