I saw Junonia.com mentioned once. I have gotten a lot of stuff from them and have been very happy. They have everything -- running/walking; biking (just try to find plus-sized padded bike shorts at Old Navy); golf; tennis; pool (lots of chlorine-resistant suits and even triathlon singlets); skiing...Their tagline is "Dedicated to the Lives of Active Women." Nice. Their stuff is expensive, though, because it is good quality. I think investing in good clothes that won't need to be replaced is an investment in my health. That said, they have good sales so check out the clearance and Juno's closet on the site. Hope this helps.

Great to see all your suggestions - online and off. I have not really been interested in shopping or styles for most of my life. I'm 61 - still wear jeans all the time except when I am at work - then I wear the same zipfront style but dressier fabric along with knit tops. I have two fashion "wants". I'd love to find some 1960's vintage styles in plus sizes. Seems like clothes had more "style" then - darts and seams that flattered etc. Good colors. I need resources for very large cup size bras. I am wearing a very worn out Goddess 44H underwire - any body else struggling with this issue? Thanks for posting!

Our Walmart has drastically cut back o their atheltic wear. They have some danskin yoga pants, but nothing moisture-wicking, no warm up jackets, and some shorts - even int the men's dept. Target here is a joke - ours go to XL - no bigger. I'd like to find some walking tights so I can get out in the cooler weather, but I cannot afford $90 for a pair. Its difficult to find long-sleeve moisture-wicking t's that fit over my girls - have to go with a 1-2x. Its very discouraging...

Me too! I also wonder why they sell tops in larger sizes than the bras they sell.

Salonkitty - thank you. They have a good range of general bras as well as a sports selection. What a find! I will be looking into other suggestions too. Thanks to all who have replied to my question.

Many UK catalogues cater only for certain things, and few of them cater for sportswear for larger frontages! But they are usually very helpful and will suggest other companies to try, if you email them. I did so at one point, and got some very helpful replies. Unfortunately I can't remember which were the catalogues I emailed, and which were their suggestions, as I never found anything to suit. I am big round the way, and big at the front too, so definitely a "larger size"!

Hello, I am in the UK and just recently bought a couple sports bras I'm quite pleased with online at brastop.com as they specialise in sizes D-K. You might have a look there and see what they've got. I have the Freya Active with underwire and it's great. Very supportive and suitable for all activities that I can think of.

I mentioned before that I do seamstress work. If u sew a swatch of material onto the inside of your pants band, you can use it as a hidden pocket for the barest essentials during a workout.

Lane Bryant is pricy..Walmart is ok but be careful, some brands such as Danskin run on the smaller side so may need the next largest size for comfort.

I have had quite a few people give me their workout clothes as they lost weight. I do check freecycle.com and craigslist for when I need some items. Completely agree with the prior comments on Lane Bryant regarding price & quality.
Bought men's cross training shoes at Target and have been very pleased!
Thanks for a great topic!

I see Mamanellnell suggested for UK gals to go to simplybe. I wonder if anyone here from the UK has any experience buying sports bras on-line and if they have found theirs very good. I have looked at the ones on simplybe and they seem to have a fair selection in my size (I am small round the back but generous round the front). I have problems buying properly fitted ordinary bras let alone sports bras, being well endowed, so any help that can be given would be appreciated. I've read that I should go for an underwired sports bra with hooks and eyes round the back. Many thanks.

I would also suggest for those who do turn to mens clothing (which is a viable option) To find a lower priced seamstress in your area. I am one and alter all of the clothing I buy because just as with the lus size clothing for workouts, they do not seem to think that anyone overweight should have children without wearing mumuus the entire pregnancy!

I actually get most of my workout wear from Walmart...sports bras, cotton socks, and men's shorts and shirts. Men's gear is very comfortable and has big pockets for my keys, mp3 player, etc. Most women's workout shorts/pants have NO pockets. Stylish, but not helpful. I buy my athletic shoes from Kohls or Penneys. May start to shop at an athletic shoe store, though, to get higher quality. But Walmart's men's department is the key. I even buy sports hats to shade my face from the sun there. HTH

I do sometimes buy men's workout shorts. I don't get why women's workout shorts are so crazy short. Nobody needs to see my jiggly thighs! Of course, men's shorts often go the other way. All the way down to the bottom of the knees, which is also NOT a good look for anyone. But at least if I look hard enough I can find men's workout shorts that come to at least mid-thigh or just above the knee. Somebody was asking about shoes. My favorite brands are Keen and Mizuno. I usually prefer to buy shoes in person, but I do online order fairly often. When I do, I use Zappos.com (free shipping and returns) and Amazon Warehouse Deals. Amazon Warehouse Deals sells shoes that have been returned after having been tried on. I'm guessing they're Zappos returns, since Amazon has acquired Zappos. So what you'll see on Warehouse Deals is a single size of a particular brand and style. It's just fun to scan through and see what you can find in your size. If you do find something, it's WAY less than the normal price; about half a lot of the time. So far, I've bought two pairs of these Warehouse Deals shoes and had no problem at all with them.

I agree with the suggestion to wash your workout clothes and bras inside out in cold water then line dry. Even my jeans are washed in this manner to keep their "blue" appearance longer.

I also have to say that the Enell bra is amazing. I also have a large chest and never liked running because no other bra held things in place. This bra holds everything in place and makes my cardio workouts, including running, so much more enjoyable! Also check out Old Navy for workout clothes in plus sizes.

Someone else said it first, so I just thought I would say Lane Bryant has this brand online. I ordered 4, with a buy one get one free sale. I was not sure of the size I would take so I ordered two in each size, 42dd and 44dd. Since my order was now over $50, I got to take off an additional % and got free shipping. So this $46 bra ended up costing me about $16 each. Then I returned the two that did not fit as well to the store. With Lane Bryant it is all about sales and coupons! For a no wire bra Glamorise is the best I have found that actually DOES have support and holds you in place! Here is what was written before... Glamorise makes a sports bra that you can adjust (it has an inner soft cup bra, with an adjustable mesh panel over top) based on the bounce control you need for the activity. I was able to get it in a 40 G. It has no underwire so it is comfortable for a lot of bending and flexing. They have other models as well, but I wanted the extra support that this provided and I have been extremely happy.

I was really excited recently when I saw that workout clothes were super cheap on the clearance rack at Wal-Mart. Then I realized that most of the clothes were sizes 4/5 and with very little exception topped out at size 10. There were a couple size 16 tanks, and anything else that would fit was knit or sweats--not exactly what I need to start working out during summer in Texas. Still, what I got was $1-$5, and it's a good start for some post-pregnancy workout clothes.

Walmart has the just my size line that are pretty nice. Also, "just my size" has a website where they have their brand stuff and also carry "Champion" brand plus size clothing. I did find that the Champion sizing seems to run a little small. There is also a great website called Junonia.com. They have an excellent selection of plus size women's work out gear and very good quality for all different types of sports including winter sports etc. BEWARE...they are very expensive...but the other side of that is you get what you pay for. I am waiting till I get to a more stable weight before I spend that kind of money. Also, Roamans.com and womanwithin.com they are starting to carry athletic gear too.
