- Chickpeas. Toss them in salad, fry them up on their own, whatever. They're a great source of protein and a good 'filler'.
- Spinach. As salad and smoothie base. So much good for you's in them and 2-4 cups a day gives me a ton of energy.
- Almond milk. B12 source, low in calories.
- Nutritional yeast. B12 source and great for making salad dressings.
- Avocados. I rely on these more than I should! Healthy fats and helps replace cheese in many meals (vegan). 1-2 avocados a week and my hair and nails are shiny and incredibly fast-growing.

Also this last week or so peanut butter has been sneaking in more and more often. If I need a quick protein and/or fat boost then in it goes. It's helpful that it's also really tasty.

Lots of veggies. I try to keep my carbs on the low side, and I don't eat wheat at all, so they are the star attraction for most of my meals.

This sounds demented, I know, but it's cheese. Good cheese, that is -- Cheddar, extra sharp. I found that when I decided that I "can't have cheese because I'm dieting", then I'd get myself in trouble and go on a weekend Mexican-food binge, or cheeseburgers, or whatever -- and that isn't even the good kind of cheese. I did try reduced-fat Cheddar, but the mouth-feel is all wrong, and it reminds me of soap. Having an ounce or so of good aged cheddar 2 or 3 times a week satisfies me, and I don't feel like I'm going to go crazy and eat stupid things just to get the cheese taste. As far as "rely on" meaning things that I eat regularly, I'd have to say rice with toasted sesame seeds, and teriyaki-sauced chicken breast. I've this year started making bento boxes for lunch, and sesame rice is a whole different experience from plain white rice.

Great topic---really like getting new ideas from everyone. My family eats a lot of meat and pasta (spaghetti, burgers, etc) that my husband cooks for dinner, so I've begun eating breakfast for dinner and having a "main meal" at work for lunch: Go to meals and snacks-- Ezekiel toast with low-fat peanut butter, banana or seasonal fruit Mixed lettuces or roasted vegetables with Tyson fully-cooked grilled chicken strips and low-fat feta cheese Cheerios (variety of flavors) topped with cottage cheese and berries; steel-cut oats with seasonal fruit Greek yogurt, roasted almonds, boiled eggs (limited b/c of high cholesterol)
