Every time we see something of larger monetary value (for my house anything over $20 that's a want) then, we take a pic or a note in our smart phone of that stores price, etc. When I get home I research when I think of it or as I look at ads etc. Generally, I put off even researching it and when we finally remember it we either realize we didn't need or want it, bought it but saved money, or otherwise. It really helps curb impulse purchases.

MORE INFORMATION:
We have no health insurance, so drug costs are a big deal. I call all the local pharmacies and purchase the medicine at the one that's cheapest. One drug was $240.99 at one store (the highest), but $151.00 at another!
If you use a price comparison website you can work out in advance whether the saving you make in one supermarket equals or exceeds the price you pay for getting there.
I joined Pinecone Research nearly 3 years ago and I love it. They will send you email surveys about new products every so often and for each survey you get paid $3. Additionally you will receive new products to try out. I make about $15 a month and I get to try a new product about every other month. One time I got a 35 lb bag of dog food valued at over $40!
